Read and believe in Jesus

The Gospel according to John
REVIEW – A large “harvest of souls” in Samaria after Jesus talked to the lone Samaritan Woman. God met her needs, and immediately she wanted to share with others. They, in turn came to see for themselves, and believed. The disciples were amazed on all fronts.
.
John 4:43-45.
After that two-day “harvest” in Samaria, Jesus then traveked north to the region of Galilee. His own people were glad to have Him back, but for a different reason. They weren’t hungry for His word of truth and salvation as the Samaritans were, but wanted to see more “signs” like what He had done in Jerusalem at Passover.
.
John 4:46-48.
He stopped briefly at Cana where he had turned the water to wine at the wedding feast. Then he went the 16 miles further the next day to Capernaum.where there was an “official” whose son was was seriously ill. (This “official” was probably a member of King Herod’s household. Herod was then the tetrarch of Galilee.)
When this official heard that Jesus had come back from Judea to Gallee, he went to Him and asked him to come heal his son.
You can almost hear Jesus sigh. He had barely arrived in town and already people wanted what He could DO for them. “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” (Was He thinking of the Samaritan woman and the town who had so overwhelmingly believed in Him as Messiah after His simple conversation with them?)
.
John 4:49-54.
But the man was persistant. He knew the storied reputaion of this “miracle worker.” He kept on begging, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
Jesus must have see a glimmer of faith in the official. “Go, your son will live.” He commanded.
The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went his way.. As he went, his servents met him. (Did he at first fear the news of the boy’s death??) But no. They said his son was RECOVERING! And he had been since the very hour Jesus spoke the words of life. This strengthened his small faith, and even his whole household believed when he told them what had happened.
John claims this as “the second sign that Jesus did in Galilee.”

(This story make me think with a bit of shame at the many, many times that I go to my heavenly Father with wants and needs. ‘Lord, I need this.’ ‘Father, please heal me, fix this problem, give me what I (think) I need!” Oh, how much more often, do I need to open my Bible, and just feast on His words… listen to them, and believe and praise Him.”)
